For a lot of laboratories, it can be difficult to find a space to test solutions, which makes running a Proof-Of-Concept even more challenging.
At NEC Laboratories Singapore (NLS), we realized that there was an immediate need for a space where we can effectively co-create solutions together with customers and partners, as well as test these solutions before living lab deployment.
Our Advanced Centre for Experimentation (ACE) was established to meet that need, and we decided that it’s only fitting that its launch should be as grand as its purpose!
Over 100 guests attended the inaugural event, including valued customers/partners, NEC APAC staff, and of course a handful of esteemed VIPs.
The event was kicked off with a speech by the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore, Mr. Kenji Shinoda. Following him was the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Ms. Low Yen Ling, who reminded the crowd of the long history of collaborations between NEC and Singapore, and shared her hopes for ACE being a space for more great future collaborations.
From NEC APAC spoke the Senior Vice-President responsible for Central Research Laboratories, Mr Motoo Nishihara, followed by the APAC CEO, Mr. Tetsuro Akagi. They shared details on the current vision for NLS as well as NEC Laboratories. Rounding up the introductory speeches was the Head of NLS, Mr. Mervyn Cheah, who spoke of his excitement towards developing new technologies and exploring new co-creation opportunities at ACE.
After the official signing ceremony, VIPs were also given an exclusive look at some of the technologies being developed by NEC, including our work in Facial Recognition, Vehicle Analytics, Crowd Analytics, Augmented Reality, and our smart command centre application, known as NeoCenter.
Guests then enjoyed an impressive spread and an open bar, and the evening turned a lot more casual and relaxed. While the guests were busy mingling, Ms. Low took the time to speak to a group of NLS researchers and talents, who shared their personal experiences working at NLS.
Hours later, as the last guest left ACE well-fed and satisfied, the remaining NLS staff quietly cleaned up, for the next day promised more work and experimentation. However, they were not quiet because they were tired, but because they were still taking in the grandeur of the evening, and looking forward to the next big event!
Thanks once again to all the guests who came by, and to all the NLS staff who put in a great deal of work to organize the event! We got good press from the ACE opening, which you can see at the links below. Do also check out our photo gallery covering the evening! We hope to see all of you again at our next big event!
